'Open Letter' By Talha Anjum
Open Letter is an album released on 18th February 2023 by Talha Anjum which is no less than a roller-coaster ride in his Universe. This Album proves Talha's versatility once again. He shows a wide spectrum of music through this album from Sadness to healing and Gangster shit to flex. The starting and ending tracks are just magical and create a vibe in themselves.
Umair , the music producer of the album, just show his best work with this album.
Let's start the album review with Nat
1) Melancholy
Melancholy as its name suggest reflects the sadness of Anjum post heartbreak. This song is perfectly suited for the album cover. It sets the environment for the album which is a must for the intro track of the album.
2) Happy Hour
Jokhay shows his magic in this song with his production and Anjum matches his level by his lyricism with remarkable lines like " Afsos ke afsanay mein gumaan dhoond raha hu" giving a shoutout to Young Stunners and it also makes sense meaning finding suspicion in romance. End of this song sounds quite out of the context with lines like " We don't want no beef with these studio gangsters " which just starts of nowhere.
3) At The Top
A motivating as well as a flex track which is Anjum best at. This track is about his struggle of coming and being at the top as he is at the top of desi hip hop at present and is an extraordinary artist in the current DHH scene.
4) Touch Base
Touch base is a gangster vibe song with a killer hook. A highly anticipated song of the Album as they have already delivered a masterpiece like Quarantine collaborating with Kr$na . The audience had a huge expectation with this song which I think doesn't meet. It feels like something is missing. And even Kr$na's verses weren't clear and may have some issues while recording.
5) Studio Gangster
This song is truly owned by Rap Demon who has some of the best bars till date. The second half of this song has some killer beats by Umair which even overshadow Talha's lyrics. But this track sounds off in this album.
6) Two Tone
This song is just a perfect reply to those who compare Talha Anjum and Talha Yunus. This track surprise me at first as previous two tracks weren't as per expected. This song has everything from a killer hook to fire production and flow. Best work by Umair and Talha Anjum.
7) False Prophets
A melodic track with a beautiful hook. After this track the album shifts toward melody.
8) Desperation
Desperation is a perfect mix of melody, poetry and emotion. This has great production and heart-touching lyrics. Lines like " Zindagi keemti lagi when I buried my homie " shows his struggle and his past.
9) Lost In Time
A melodic track with a lovely hook. The hook line " Tu le chal kahin " tells a lot about the song. My Favourite line of this song is " Mein reh guzar tha uska aur ab wo guzar chuki" which means she has moved on but he is stuck and lost in that old time.
10) Kaam Pura
Kaam Pura talks about his journey and how far he has come. This is a flex song with an average hook. I feel the hook sounds like Divine's sound. This song is just not my type.
11) Flex
Starting off the song sounds slow and boring but the second part is a complete twist with a lovely flow and beat. The hook itself is a vibe "Flex nahi Life hai bro".
12) Glass Half Full
A pure poetic track with beautiful verses of JJ47, Talha Yunus and Talha Anjum.
Talking about JJ47, his whole verse was beautiful with simple, poetic and heart-touching lines like " Mujhe ghar puhnchati dua warna saath maut chaley ". A true storyteller.
Talha Yunus was the cherry on the cake. Lines like " Na raha saaya jiske liye dekhe khwaab bade" show his love towards his loved ones who are no longer alive.
Talha Anjum won my heart with lines like " Sabse bade ghum hi dete sabse zyaada himmat "
and " Mein kitna khush kismat ghar aaon wapas maa mila ".
I can write a whole separate article for this single song.
13) Downers At Dusk
Downers at Dusk has some of life-changing pieces of advice with a lovely hook. It feels like Melancholy has completed in happy notes. This is a complete song in itself too. The way Talha says Sahiba is lovely to hear. Lines like " Khwab toh khwab hai unka poora hona koi majboori to nahi hai " and " Kisi ne kya khoob kaha hai, tere darmiyaan bas tu hi khada hai "make me cry.
14) Secrets
Secrets is one of the best song on this album. This is a love song with beautiful production. The hook of this song is best in this album with a beautiful tribute to Poet Jaun Elia in Anjum's lovely voice " Be-dili kia yunhi din guzar jayen gey, sirf zinda rahay hum toh mar jayengay ".
and a lovely outro.
15) Open Letter
The title and final track of the album is a storytelling and a perfect way to thank and address his fans. This track is a beautiful ending and makes us ( Fans) feels precious and make us feel like he is directly talking to us. This track is a piece of mastery.
And the album ends with " Hang tight, Be safe and Bhai hai tu "
This is a great start of the year with such a beautiful album. This album is going to be one of the best album of DHH.
My personal favourites were Melancholy, Happy Hour, Two Tone, Glass Half Full, Downers at Dusk, Secrets and Open Letter.
